The land of Tibet was the home of the Lhasa  Apso, the breed taking its name from the sacred city of Lhasa


Ideal height: 10 to 11 inches (25-28 cm.); a little less for bitches. Weight: 13 to 15 pounds (5.9-6.8 kg.). According to its standard, its hair should cascade from its head over its eyes; it should have a dark beard and mustaches; a muzzle that is of medium length but not square; small, dark, deep-set eyes; and heavily feathered ears. Its neck has an abundant scarf of hair, and its feathered tail is carried over its back. Coat: straight, hard,  heavy, but not silky. Colors: honey, sand, slate, or black brindle.


Stubborn, self-confident, affectionate with its master, but will not tolerate rough, badly behaved children.


The Lhasa Apso is a hardy dog with an excellent sense of hearing. It will give good early warning at the approach of strangers
