Bathing dogs should be taken very seriously. When giving your dog a bath carelessness should not factor into the equation. If you are not careful, there are things that could go wrong eg, if you do not take proper precautions to avoid water getting into your pets ears, an ear infection could occur. Constant shaking of the head and drain from the ears are signs you should look for in the case of an ear infection.
Depending on the breed will determine how many times it should be given a bath. Hairy breeds should be given baths about every 6 to 8 weeks eg, Shih Tzu’s, Cocker Spaniels, and sheep dogs (just to name a few) are good candidates. Bathing them too much could result in some loss of protective skin qualities. However, due to their hairy nature, fecal matter might become entangled in their hair. This is when the owner should use his or her own discretion on how frequently they should give the them baths.
